I'm not exaggerating, date nights are the best marriage advice EVER....okay, maybe like not smacking each other goes on the advice list before that :), but it's really important. Honestly, it's not always all love-dovey amazing time, some dates we haven't gotten along; we've used that time instead to work out something that had been "boiling under the surface" all week. Most of the time though, our dates are relaxing and bring us closer together, AND they don't feel weird anymore. It used to feel weird being alone after having kids for a few years and not getting out, but it doesn't anymore since we've doing it on a regular basis. I just LOVE it (of course, we're in a "I really like my husband time period," and you know how that can ebb and flow, LOL :)).
Jimmy was supposed to get a week off of work, but he ended up with only three days. One day we had an all-day date day, another was an outside housework day, and the last day was with our kids to the places in the pictures above. On our all-day date, we got up and moving and dropped the kids off at my parent's house at 9 am. We went to the temple first. I'm glad we did that first because it really calmed us and made the rest of the day much more enjoyable. We had a gift card to the Olive Garden, so we went there and STUFFED ourselves. Then we went to the Woodfield mall near Chicago (i.e. the biggest mall around) for a few hours. Jimmy had never been and loved it! It has a Lego store, how could he not love it :)?! We picked up treats for the girls at the Disney store, and then picked up those girlys just in time for bed. Yeah, that definitely must start happening at least on a semiannual basis!
